Chandrayaan - The Mission to Moon

India is always lagging behind the so called developed countries in 2 fields-

One is sports
Second is science and technology.

The whole world knows that Indian contribution is huge in the history of science and technology.
But after been ruled by Britisher’s for more than 200 years and after getting freedom in 1947 the priority of India has been completely changed. We can justify that with the situation the country undergone.

But for last 15 years India is developing steadily, thanks to the liberalization concept during 90’s. But the development is not up to the potential and requirement of situation.
One of the milestones India is going to set in October 2008 is very remarkable and boosting for the whole nation. The budding youngsters will certainly be motivated to get into the core science field rather than running behind software, hardware, BPO & call centers.

About the mission to MOON:
Mission Name: Chandrayaan -1
Chandra means MOON, and yaan means VEHICLE
Some of the facts of chandrayaan are
 The Idea of Chandrayaan evolved in 1999
 National Lunar Mission Task Force created by ISRO in 2000
 Chandrayaan-1 got approval in November 2003
 The planned mission date is October 2008.
 The travel time of shuttle is 5.5 days
 The total budget of Chandrayaan-1 Rs.3800-million
 launch will be executed from Sriharikota
 Two Mini Synthetic Aperture Radar (Mini SAR) of NASA been used in Chandrayaan-1
 The launching Vehicle is PSLV
 The Indian payloads on board Chandrayaan-1 include:
o a Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC)
o a Hyper Spectral Imager (HySI)
o a High-Energy X-ray spectrometer (HEX)
o a Lunar Laser Ranging Instrument (LLRI) and
o a Moon Impact Probe (MIP)
Some of historical points in MOON’s exploration:
 The first leap in Lunar observation was made by Galileo Galilei who used his new invention the telescope to observe mountains and craters on the lunar surface.

 The first man-made object to reach the Moon was the unmanned Soviet probe Luna 2 in September 1959

 Humans first landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969. The first man to walk on the lunar surface was Neil Armstrong

 The last man to walk on the Moon was in December 1972 by Eugene Cernan during Apollo 17 mission.

Being a Space science follower, I really feel happy and proud that India is setting such a landmark. Really 2008 is turning out to be a great year for Indian history as India created history in Olympics & now about to create a landmark in history of space science. Hope these 2 events will lead Indian progress in coming years in sports and science.

I really want to see India being termed as superpower before I die.
